Butwal Power Company Limited (BPC) is a pioneer hydropower company operating two hydropower plants with strategic investments in other hydropower companies and related field. BPC was established in 1966 with the objective to develop Nepal's hydropower resources. The Company is seeking to fulfill following vacancy for its office.

Title and Level : Senior Manager – Human Resources & General Administration, Level 10
Business Unit : Corporate Management
Employment  Status : Contract period one year initially
Location : Head Office, Kathmandu
Reports to : VP Corporate

Purpose of the Role

  • The role holder has overall responsibility of the Human Resources and Administration Function of the Corporate Management of the Company.
  • Is responsible for leading the HR function by providing strategic HR guidance and expertise to VP Corporate/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Management Committee (ManCo) in order to achieve business performance.
  • The role holder will ensure the effective utilisation and development of the human capital, maintaining effective employer-employee relations and relations with country regulatory authorities, in line with the company’s strategy and values.
  • The role holder will seek to maintain high standards of professionalism and service quality.

 

Responsibilities

Strategy
  • Communicate the Company’s strategy, priorities and objectives, providing thought leadership to the ManCo in the development of a consolidated strategy and human capital management.
  • Provide recommendations to the business regarding HR policies and procedures, change management and organisational transformation initiatives in order to enable delivery of the business strategy in alignment with the Company’s policies..
Business
  • Contribute to the delivery of the business and financial agenda / objectives, via alignment with the business as agreed in the Company’s business plan.
  • Contribute to the financial performance by resource allocation decisions, leading cost management within HR
Processes
  • Provide guidance and review HR processes in accordance with the best HR standards to improve service and delivery, ensuring that adequate crisis recovery planning is undertaken and reviewed on a regular basis.
  • Manage HR productivity, headcount and cost according to HR organisation structure and capacity model.
  • Prepares HR and Administrative Annual Operating Plan and Targets
  • Maintains HRIS & MIS report monthly.
People and Talent
  • Lead, develop and implement an effective approach to people and talent management across the company, facilitating cross-functional development and embedding a high-performance culture that aligns to the company strategy.
  • Ensure that there is sufficient current and forward-looking resourcing and high-quality succession pipelines at all levels of the organisation, both within the HR function and across other business functions; continually seek to broaden talent pipelines by building talent pools to meet with the Company’s business aspirations.
  • Support VP Corporate/CEO in identifying and addressing development / performance requirements of the ManCo, providing advice regarding appointments and movements of ManCo members.
  • Lead the Performance, Pay & Potential reviews
  • Develops, reviews, and implements the compensation and benefits packages to ensure market competitiveness
  • Identify and develops scheme ensuring appropriate reward for high performance and sanction for poor performance by implementing the approved Performance Management System and conducts appraisals and evaluation.
  • Develop and implement an engagement plan in order to improve and drive employee engagement.
  • Provide leadership, management and coaching to the HR team, ensuring professionalism, engagement, high performance, adherence to health and safety principles and the development of skills to support business growth and strategy.
  • Develop and implement initiatives in order to strengthen the company’s employer brand and become the ‘Employer of Choice’.
  • Review and drive a quality succession plan and forward-looking resourcing plan.
  • Monitor on boarding induction programmes and related initiatives to reduce staff attrition.
  • Continue to develop a professional HR team to support the delivery of business strategy and performance.
Risk Management
  • Ensure the maintenance of a healthy business environment through strict compliance with standards as defined by Local Regulatory Authorities
  • Ensure and administer staff grievance and disciplinary procedure including GBVH, negotiate settlement of appeals and complaints.
  • Performs activities designated to promote and maintain harmonious relations between employees/Union and Management
  • Ensure that all employee related policies, procedures and practices comply with both internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure applicable external laws and regulations and internal policies, procedures, limits and other risk control requirements are implemented and complied.
  • Ensure that all risks related to HR are properly monitored, managed and where necessary escalated to appropriate authorities and relevant committees, including driving the decision-making process for adequately addressing these risks, and ensuring adequate collaboration with the business stakeholders in managing these risks
  • Continuously reinforce health and safety working environment to all employees.
Governance
  • Ensure adherence to the highest standards of regulatory conduct and compliance practices across HR as defined by internal and external requirements and in line with the organization’s values and code of conduct, implementing and maintaining robust structures to support effective corporate governance within HR.
  • Ensure that all material investments and capital / project expenditure in HR is managed within the agreed budget.
  • Ensure that HR prepares, tests and regularly updates its Business Continuity Plan.
  • Maintain a good understanding of applicable laws and regulations and mitigants for material exposures
  • Ensure implementation of policies, procedures and standards through processes including effective communication, training, advice and support
  • Administers staff consultation and grievance procedure including GBVH, negotiate settlement of appeals and complaints.
Stakeholder Management
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, protecting and enhancing the organization’s reputation and image.
  • Develop and maintain a robust relationship with local regulators, industry bodies and relevant government

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in relevant field (Human Resources) with 10-years managerial experience and proven track record
  • Understanding of financials (e.g. interpreting financial statements, budgeting, project accounting) and experience managing financial activities / information.
  • Understanding of HR products (e.g. engagement, performance management) and how to implement them.
  • Knowledge of the latest HR trends, best practices and how to successfully apply them.
  • Excellent collaboration, influencing and facilitation skills at both individual and leadership levels.
  • Excellent communication skills; clear oral and written skills,
  • Ability to lead and engage a high performing team as well as performance manage.
  • Commercially, culturally and diversity aware, with high sensitivity to the social, economic and political environment.
  • Understanding and experience of managing ER activities and relationships with regulators and government related agencies.
